What is your repair turnaround time?

CMI’s repair turnaround for most computer repair services averages about 1 or 2 business days. Actual repair turnaround time can vary, based on the nature of the repair service needed and current shop repair volume. For clients desiring the quickest repair turnaround possible, we offer a “Next In Queue” rush service.

What is your 'Next in Queue Rush' service? When will my computer be ready?

CMI recognizes that being without your computer can be difficult, and that downtime can be costly to your business or lifestyle. In order to better serve customers needing immediate assistance, our ‘Next In Queue’ repair rush service bumps your work order to the front of the repair queue where it will be our technician’s top priority until it is completed. Please understand that as with any repair service, actual completion time of a rush service repair may vary and could be delayed by data transfer or recovery, parts availability, or other issues beyond our control.

What do you mean when you say 'business days?' Does this include weekends and holidays?

When CMI quotes estimated repair completion times such as ‘next day’, ‘overnight’ , etc. we are referring to business days, Monday through Friday. Any holiday closures or changes to our business hours will be posted clearly in our store and on our website ahead of time.

Do you repair Non-Apple computers or laptops?

CMI specializes on servicing Windows / Apple Macintosh products. We are not currently servicing computers from other manufacturers. We do, however, offer data recovery service for most all products.

Do you repair iPhones, iPads, or iPods?

At this time, CMI does not repair iPods, iPhones or iPads. If you have one of these devices and require service, we suggest visiting your nearest Apple Store. If you require data recovery from one of these devices, we can help.

Do I need to provide my AC adapter, keyboard, mouse or OS installation discs?

Usually not. However, if the issue you are experiencing is related to powering or charging the computer, you should include the AC adapter. There is no need to include your original discs, but if you have upgraded the operating system on the Mac please provide your retail OS discs or AppStore proof of purchase to CMI for license verification.

I don't know what's wrong with my computer, do you offer diagnostic services?

Yes we do. CMI’s diagnostic service is designed to help get your computer back up and running ASAP. An experienced, Windows / Apple-Certified repair technician will perform a complete service diagnostic on your computer, including the Apple factory and CMI’s own proprietary tests, and provide a comprehensive quote of the repairs needed.

What is your data recovery success rate?

CMI uses various state of the art hardware-based and software-based data recovery tools to ensure the best possible data recovery outcome. Even with the best available tools, a successful data recovery depends largely on the physical condition of the drive at the time the drive is received by CMI. As each drive failure is unique we cannot guarantee the likelihood of success for a specific recovery, however our overall data recovery success rate is over 95%!

How do you provide customers with data that has been successfully recovered from a failed hard drive?

CMI will typically put data that has been successfully recovered onto a brand new USB backup drive, available in a variety of sizes starting as low as $79. Alternatively, data that has been successfully recovered can be put on a brand new or empty hard drive provided by the client at the time the data recovery work order is created.

What Is Your Data Recovery Turnaround Time?

Turnaround time for most data recovery services is estimated at 2-3 business days, Monday-Friday. Turnaround estimates are subject to change and actual turnaround time may be shorter or longer than estimated. CMI offers a “next in queue” data recovery rush service available for +$199 for which we commence work on your data recovery work order immediately upon drop off. Data recovery work orders with rush service get priority handling. Please understand that with any data recovery service, the time required to retrieve the data is largely determined by the physical condition of the drive. While CMI can expedite the handling of the overall recovery process, there is nothing we can do to make data come over any faster than the failing hard drive permits. Data recovery rush fees are payable at the time of drop-off and are nonrefundable regardless of the recovery outcome.

Do You Have a Clean Room?

CMI does not currently have a clean room facility, which is in part is how we keep our data recovery prices low compared to the competition. Our extensive experience with data recovery has shown that a clean room is required for only for a very small percentage of failed drives. Most data recoveries can be performed successfully without need for a clean room process under one of the three tiers of data recovery services CMI offers. For clients whose failed drives require a clean room recovery, CMI can facilitate this service on your behalf with one of our trusted data recovery partners. Please note that clean room data recoveries tend to be significantly more expensive than what CMI charges for data recovery. Following a detailed evaluation of the drive at the clean room facility CMI will provide a no-obligation quote for the clean room data recovery service.

Do You Perform Data Transfer Services Too?

CMI also offers data transfer services for healthy drives that are in 100% good working order. For example, if you are upgrading to a newer Mac we can transfer or migrate the data from the older computer or a backup hard drive to the newer computer.

Data Loss Prevention Tips

Sometimes data loss happens in spite of your best efforts to prevent it. If the drive has failed, is clicking, grinding, or malfunctioning, we strongly advise that you immediately turn it off. Further damage can occur if you try to fix it yourself, especially if you hear scraping, grinding, clicking or other unusual sounds. These sounds indicate that something is scraping the platter surfaces and could make any chance of successful recovery impossible.

Here are some steps to take that will increase your chances of a successful recovery:

  • Don’t Panic.
  • Turn off the power.
  • Do not re-install any software.
  • Do not format the drive.
  • Do not open the hard disk, or try to repair it yourself
  • Do not try to reconfigure or re-initialize the RAID array.
